Go-Ahead Group, a leading UK passenger transport service provider, needed to embed consistent standards of contract management across its business to ensure that critical and strategic supply chain partners would deliver excellent service at good value.

The approach

Step 1: Analysis

A three-pronged review of current practices and processes

  1. A deep-dive into existing policies and procedures, undertaking a gap analysis against appropriate practices.

  2. Stakeholder interviews with leadership and delivery staff involved in contract management.
  3. A business-wide survey of the current understanding of contract management, adherence to policies and procedures and opportunities for improvement.

Step 2: Insights & Recommendations

What we found:

  • Understanding and execution of contract management was inconsistent
  • Besides potential lost value from supplier contracts, sub-optimal contract management may be introducing significant supply chain risks

What we proposed:

  • Enhancements to existing policies and procedures to bring them in line with best practices
  • A custom-designed business-wide training program to embed a the new contract management approach

Step 3: Action & Results

    We developed and delivered:

    1 - An enhanced contract management process, complemented by a comprehensive suite of contract management tools and templates

    2 - A bespoke series of intensive 1-day contract management training workshops.

    Results

    • Full stakeholder buy-in and the quality of the training delivered by our experienced professionals helped ensure that the desired change was achieved.
    • Over 60 people attended training workshops. The full suite of templates and tools enabled Go-Ahead to sustain a consistent standard of contract management.
    • User feedback was consistently positive and enthusiastic.
